ABOUT JEJU-DO

Jeju province encompasses the South Korean island of Jeju in the Korea Strait. It's known for its beach resorts and volcanic landscape of craters and cavelike lava tubes. Hallasan Mountain, a dormant volcano, features hiking trails, a crater lake at the 1,950m summit and nearby Gwaneumsa Temple. The Geomunoreum Lava Tube System includes 7km-long Manjanggul Cave, created centuries ago when Hallasan was still active.
The island is a honeymoon destination for South Koreans, thanks to its many beachside resorts and theme parks such as the infamous Loveland erotic sculpture park. Hyeopjae Beach offers shallow, turquoise waters; Hamdeok Beach is an expansive stretch of white sand; and Samyang Beach, near capital Jeju City, features black sands. Outdoor activities include hiking the Olle Trail, a series of coastal routes; surfing at Jungmun Beach; and scuba diving at sites such as Udo Island, off the east coast. The city of Seogwipo contains the 3-tier Cheonjeyeon Waterfall, while nearby Seongeup Folk Village showcases traditional island culture.
